The place? The Wild West. The yearโฆ The Wild West. Come see as comedy trio Business Casual presents with their new show: COWBOYS! Business Casual (@businesscasualcomedy) is a sketch comedy trio hailing from Los Angeles. The group consists of Jeremy Elder (@jeremyelderr), Cory Peter Lane (@corypeterlane), and Hunter Saling (@idealstepdad), all graduates from the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television. The trio embody a unique blend of physicality, absurdist sketch comedy, and clown. Or as one drunken woman in Louisville titled it: comedy rock nโ roll. Critics have called their previous works โphysical comedy perfectionโ (Three Weeks), โbeautifully absurdโ (Radio Haha), โsheer Fringe geniusโ (The Scotsman), and โan evening of stupidity youโll be sure to rememberโ (Broadway World). COWBOYS most recently completed a limited Off-Broadway run at Asylum NYC. Previously, the show was presented as part of the Netflix is a Joke Festival and Moontower Comedy Festival, both to sold out audiences. Their previous show FERAL has been featured at the Moontower Comedy Festival, New York Comedy Festival, SF Sketch Fest, and the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe Festival (produced under the Stamptown banner). The show tells the story of a gunslinging cowboy seeking revenge on the three men who killed his family. He must assemble a posse and set out on the journey of a lifetime. Along the way, the group encounter gold miners, snake oil salesman, and just about every Western trope you could think of. If you do think of a trope that they donโt mention, Business Casual kindly invites you to โkeep it to yourself!โ Yeehaw pardner! Snake in my boot! Big pot of gold! PRAISE FOR COWBOYS: โBusiness Casual are all going to be world famous in a few years and you are going to feel very cool about being able to say you saw them do a bizarre cowboy themed comedy show.โ โ Chris Gethard โI love these boys with all of my heart.โ โ Natalie Palamides With an opening set from Las Vegas' TSTMRKT

โก๏ธ comedy
๐ Sydney Goldstein Theater, 275 Hayes St, San Francisco
(gmaps)
SF Sketchfest is thrilled to pay tribute to the one and only Albert Brooks, who will sit down for an in-depth conversation with Kevin Pollak. Albert Brooks is an American filmmaker, actor, author, and comedian. Brooks revolutionized comedy in the late 1960โs when he came on the scene with a new form of standup, one that made fun of comedy itself. From 1968 to 1972, Brooks appeared on over one hundred network variety and talk shows, always performing new material that he had never tried out beforehand. Knowing he wanted to go into motion pictures, Brooks made his first short film for the Public Broadcasting System in 1972, "Albert Brooksโ Famous School for Comedians", a satire on schools that claimed they could teach people how to be artists. In 1975, he made six original short films for the very first season of "Saturday Night Live", creating the short film segment, still in place fifty years later. In 1979, Brooks wrote, directed, and starred in his first feature film, "Real Life", which purported to make a real familyโs life into a major motion picture, showing how the filmmaker and family affected each other. The movie foreshadowed what reality television would become thirty five years later. After "Real Life", Brooks wrote, directed and starred in the now classic movies "Modern Romance", "Lost in America", "Defending Your Life", "Mother", "The Muse", and "Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World". As an actor, Brooks has appeared in over thirty films beginning with Martin Scorseseโs legendary "Taxi Driver". Some of the other co-starring roles include "Private Benjamin", "Unfaithfully Yours", "Out of Sight", "Concussion", and "This is 40". He was nominated for an Academy Award for his work in the 1987 film "Broadcast News". He also received multiple major acting awards for his performance as the villain in the movie "Drive". In animation, Brooks voiced many legendary characters for "The Simpsons" and starred in animated films including "Dr. Doolittle", "The Secret Life of Pets", "The Little Prince" and "Finding Nemo", which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Film. Most recently, Brooksโ life and career was featured in the HBO documentary "Albert Brooks: Defending My Life" directed by Rob Reiner. The documentary received four Emmy nominations, including Best Documentary of the Year. He is currently working on an adaptation for television of his New York Times best-selling novel "2030: The Real Story of What Happens to America". His latest role will be in James L. Brooksโ film, "Ella McKay", which will be released in 2025.

Comedian/Actress Dulcรฉ Sloan was a correspondent on Comedy Centralโs "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah" for six years (2017-2023). She currently continues on as a contributor and has taken over the main chair as guest host multiple times since the departure of Noah to critical acclaim. This year she was nominated for a GLAAD Award in the category "Outstanding Variety or Talk Show Episode" for her interview with Sasha Colby during one of those guest host runs. Also under this banner, she co-hosted the popular podcast "Hold Up" with Daily Show writer and fellow comedian Josh Johnson. On the podcast, the two co-workers turned their hilarious, unpredictable, and legendary office banter into a weekly war of words about topics big and small, but mostly small. In 2024, she won an Emmy for her work as a correspondent on the Daily Show. You can see some of her "Daily Show" segments, which have garnered millions of views, here: 9-1-1 For White People Emergencies - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gV1DJNfAbiM โGone With The Windโ Is Gone - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-oeq1l7OU4 Dulcรฉโs memoir written in comedic essays "Hello, Friends! โ Stories of Dating, Destiny, and Day Jobs" was released by Random House on 2/6/24. From a childhood moving between cities, starting her own business selling toys at a Miami flea market, to being a Black kid in a predominately white school, sheโs always used her masterful wit to challenge the status quo. Have you ever dated an adult who roller skated, or went out with a mechanic just to get free auto service? Yup, sheโs got that story for you. Her stories are both wildly entertaining and culturally resonant. Her new Netflix set premiered on November 28th as part of their new standup series "Verified Stand Up" with The New York Times lauding โIn less than 15 minutes, her set packs a wallop.โ She can also be heard as part of the cast of FOXโs hit animated series "The Great North", currently in its 4th season, on which Sloan voices the character โHoneybeeโ alongside an ensemble of comedy heavyweights including Jenny Slate, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, Will Forte, and Paul Rust. In 2023 Dulcรฉ debuted as the host of The CWโs new comedy game show "The Great American Joke Off". In the series, Sloan hosts her fellow comics as they compete in coming up with hilarious set-ups for different punchlines or even using the texts on an audience member's phone as a springboard for jokes, all in a celebration of gags, wisecracks, one-liners and the art of joke telling. Sloan recently appeared as a guest judge on the iconic long-running series "RuPaulโs Drag Race" and was a celebrity guest on CNNโs "New Year's Eve Live with Anderson Cooper & Andy Cohen". She is a regular guest on NPRโs popular "Wait WaitโฆDonโt Tell Me" and is a favorite on the talk show circuit with appearances on "Watch What Happens Live", "Late Night with Seth Meyers", and "Sherri", to name a few. On the big screen, Dulcรฉ starred in the action-comedy feature "Chick Fight" alongside Malin Akerman, Alec Baldwin, and Bella Thorne with The Hollywood Reporter declaring โDulcรฉ Sloanโฆnot just steal(s) the movie but make(s) sure that no one else even comes close.โ She graced the Fall 2020 cover of SLiNK Magazine where they crowned her โThe New Queen of Comedy,โ and Rolling Stone recently hailed her as one of the 10 Comedians You Need To Know, declaring โshe speaks and they simply fall in line behind her.โ With Marcus Williams, hosted by Shanna Christmas.

After a SOLD OUT RUN at Hollywood Fringe, Woody Fu: One-Man John Wick is on tour and has gone up in Austin TX, Chicago IL, and Toronto ON. This scripted solo show takes us on the set of John Wick Chapter 5: E Pluribus Unum. Keanu needs the audienceโs help to recreate all the hallmarks of this billion dollar franchise: elaborate fight choreography, death-defying stunts, and a plot device called โundeveloped dead wife character.โ More than a parody, Woody Fu: One-Man John Wick goes deeper into Keanuโs psychology. How do we reconcile the contradiction that he is the Nicest Guy in Hollywood, but his movies are insanely violent? Where does his tireless work ethic come from? What are his demons? And also, why is Woody the one exorcising them? Keanu contains multitudes: Reluctant A-list celebrity. Polite Canadian and action movie star. 40 year acting vet who went from goofy surfer to Clint Eastwood. He loves his fans, does his own stunts, and buys people motorcycles. Let us celebrate The Nicest Guy in Hollywood with a show as weird, earnest, and hardworking as the man himself. Woody Fu is an actor/writer based in Los Angeles. He has appeared in film and television on HULU, Max, Comedy Central, ABC, CBS, FX, AppleTV+, Peacock, Netflix and Amazon. He has written for the Onion and was featured as a New Face of Comedy at Montrealโs Just For Laughs festival.

Her podcast "Obsessed with Sophie Buddle", which tackles peopleโs obsessions (from Beyoncรฉ to American politics to checking if the door is locked to revenge) is currently available on Apple Podcasts. She is a three-time runner up (but fourth timeโs the charm!) for Canada's biggest stand-up contest, SiriusXM Top Comic, and can currently be seen headlining across the country. A standup and actor; Eagle Witt is a born and raised New Yorker. At 28 years old, he performs at all the major clubs in the city including as a regular at the world famous Comedy Cellar. Eagle has been featured on Comedy Centralโs "This Week at the Comedy Cellar" as well as Amazonโs scripted series "Millenniums". As noted, Eagle has been highlighted on Vultureโs 2024โs Comedians You Should and Will Know. He has notably performed twice on "Comedy Central's Stand Up" as well as the incredibly popular Donโt Tell Comedy stand up series. In addition, Eagle is featured as one of the newest cast members on MTVโs comedy mainstay, "Wild 'n Out". Hosted by Phil Griffiths.

CONNOR RATLIFF presents THE ACTING CLASS
๐ SF
โก๏ธ comedy
๐ The Gateway Theatre, 215 Jackson Street, San Francisco
(gmaps)
An improv show disguised as an acting class, from the creator of the โDead Eyesโ podcast. Professional actor ("Mean Girls") and award-winning podcaster ("Dead Eyes") Connor Ratliff is a fixture of the NYC improv comedy scene -- a performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre for over a decade, where his George Lucas Talk Show developed a cult following and became the subject of an award-winning documentary. Ratliff is also a classically trained thespian who graduated with honors from the prestigious Liverpool Institute For Performing Arts over a quarter of a century ago, making his professional debut on the stage of the Royal Court Theatre in Londonโs West End. During that same year, he also performed at Buckingham Palace for Queen Elizabeth II. In the decades that followed, he has accumulated numerous credits as a star of stage, screen and stream, appearing in multiple Netflix Original Films as well as content on CBS, NBC, FOX, TBS, Home Box Office, Amazon Prime and the now-defunct comedy channel, Seeso. But none of that matters now. What matters now is โCONNOR RATLIFF presents THE ACTING CLASS,โ an unending series of public workshop performances where he will, before your very eyes, demonstrate what acting truly IS. For this special SF Sketchfest edition, Connor welcomes a longtime collaborator and friend to THE ACTING CLASS โ professional actor/podcaster Griffin Newman ("The Tick", "Vinyl", "Blank Check" podcast) โ for an in-depth discussion of their shared craft and a full-bodied demonstration of Newman's unexplored potential that could, perhaps, push him to his breaking point. This performance will be slightly interactive and completely improvised, lasting somewhere between 75 and 90 minutes, with occasional opportunities for students in attendance to ask questions. Defiantly self-indulgent and beyond pointless, THE ACTING CLASS is your opportunity to witness the kind of greatness โ only slightly appreciated by The Industry โ that has kept Connor Ratliff steadily employed for nearly half of the past 9 years. PRAISE FOR CONNOR RATLIFF: The New Yorker: โConnor Ratliff is a brilliant and funny comedic performer and actor.โ Vulture: โIntentionally preposterousโฆ utterly funny.โ Vanity Fair: โAn Improv Star.โ The Financial Times: โFunny.โ PRAISE FOR GRIFFIN NEWMAN: FilmSchoolRejects.com: โNewman... is proving to be one of the best new character actors of his generation.โ

Robby Hoffman is a small ex-Hasidic queer Jewish stand-up comedian, writer, and true original. She can currently be seen as the breakout of Netflix's "Verified", their new selection of next generation stand-up comedians. "New York Times" comedy critic Jason Zinoman compares her "bulldozing stand-up to Larry David because of her mountain-out-of-a-molehill kvetching, but her hilarious rage over people who complain about interruptions during a conversation makes her sound like a modern lesbian Andrew Dice Clay". Also a favorite of The Times is her podcast, "Too Far" (with Rachel Kaly) which is described as an "addictive listen", and that "truly great comedy emerges from combustible hostility, discord and a melodramatic sense of conflict". She was named one of Vulture's Top "Comedians to Watch", one of Comedy Central's "Up Next" comedians, and was on Conan O'Brien's "Comics to Watch" list. She has performed numerous times at the Montreal Just for Laughs festival and has twice headlined the New York Comedy Festival. She recorded her first one-hour stand up special "I'm Nervous" in Toronto, available on CraveTV, and can also be seen in this year's "History of the World" on Hulu. Robby is also a notable TV writer, having written on "The Chris Gethard Show" (TruTV), "Workin' Moms" (Netflix), and "Baroness Von Sketch Show" (IFC). In 2019, Robby won a Daytime Emmy Award for her writing work on "Odd Squad" (PBS). She is currently developing projects with Showtime, Warner Bros TV and A24. With an opening set by Ruby Setnik.
